All that said: there absolutely were (and are) Jewish people who were black. My grandmother is Sephardic via North Africa (Eqypt) and would be called a “high brown” in the USA. Her facial features are Caucasian but skin very dark. Think the model Iman.
Israel is itself on the corner of Asia. Europe, and Africa. Some call it the “corner of the world”. So, of course people from all over have come through there.
The Torah itself called us a “mixed multitude” coming out of Egypt, with Moshe taking dark-skinned wives (who converted). And yet we’re so mixed genetically that King David has fair skin, red hair, and blue eyes.
So they DO have a point. There were and are plenty of dark skinned Jews.
What they are missing is HaShem doesn’t care what color His people are.
