The odds of winning the Powerball is 1 in 292 million. Post-tax payout means one would make a profit from buying every potential combination of numbers. The one element I do not have information on is how many tickets will be sold before the draw on Monday. The chance of splitting the payout will reduce the expected winnings to non-profitable.

Cash in the hand is better than cash over 25 years.

There’s not going to be cash in five years, never mind 25.

Once I have the cash in hand, I can buy 20 years worth of food and clothing and seeds and then a small island in a tropical clime and hope to be forgotten.

No one forces you to buy a lotto ticket, so the stupid people are those who keep quite about forced taxes.

Look at the history of big jackpot winners and you see that things often go bad for them. Many wind up in bankruptcy court and at least one was actually murdered.

Those stories go back to when lotteries became legalized. I remember some Hispanic or black guy wearing a hat won the NY Lottery and was all over TV and doing ads. He ended up blowing it all. The main reason is a short-term thinking and impulsive person is not going to change overnight from winning a big pot of money. One sees the same phenomea with pro athletes.

Whoever wins/earns a lot of money by chance will continue playing the "game" until (s)he then loses that money by chance.

Whoever wins/earns a lot of money...or just money...will continue working to earn that money while steadily building wealth assets.

I would divide it into portions. One goes to an irrevocable trust..one to blow the fun money..one to give away..etc.

So after it is all gone the irrevocable trust takes care of me

This lazy family story is hard for me to believe because it’s based on a guy buying 40 tickets with the same number

If God wants me to win, He'll send me a sign, and then I'll buy a ticket. Not before.

Many decide not to pay taxes on property. Hire a CPA

This jackpot is high enough that if you are the sole winner and under 40 you might should do the annuity

Of course it still won’t save you from crazy greed because you could later sell it to JDWentworth

Step 1. Win the Powerball
Step 2. Wait five months
Step 3. Use that money to make MORE money
