Is the American Community Survey legit?
Very good question.
It is “legit” in the sense that yes, the U.S. Census Bureau distributes it and insists that you respond.
It is NOT legit in the sense that the Constitution doesn’t allow this.
It’s a pain in the ass, but it’s legitimate. Compiled ACS data is an important source of demographic information for governments, planning agencies, and the like.
They seemed particularly interested in housing type, home ownership, who resides at your home, income and whether you were of hispanic heritage.
They did not ask for bank account information or details that would be considered too "personal". I found it interesting that when it comes to gender identity, they followed the biological instead of the sociological trash we are constantly bombarded with now.
I a legit survey from census bureau. I still threw it away.
Senator Rand Paul put a stop to it years ago,but they keep bringing it back. I believe that it is not in accord with the Constitution's call for a census. This trash singles out people and asks a lot of invasive questions.
Send me another,in the trash it goes.
“I believe that it is not in accord with the Constitution’s call for a census”
It is not a constitutional requirement—that is for sure.
I used to work for the Census Bureau many decades ago when I was a young pup—and knocked on doors for this survey.
It is “legal” but it is intrusive for sure.
We always told people that it was “private”—but then I learned that the “privacy” could be superseded by a “national emergency”.
This is what happened in World War II:

Joe Bidet could declare a “national emergency” based on “right wing insurrection” if he does not get his jello on time and then the data could go to anybody—.gov or private contractors.
Be sure to have some fava beans and a nice chianti ready for when the census taker visits to see why you haven’t mailed it in.
are the questions different than the one they just took?
