MTV, Imo, gave these songs a big boost.
I don’t remember the band, but the story is that band leader was very strict and that ran against Adam Ant’s looser lifestyle. So, he wrote this song to fun of the band leader.
When I hear the name Adam Ant, I think of watching him on a TV inside of a small pub in Leith, Scotland.
I was in the service, and our ship was tied up somewhere near that town. This was during the Thatcher years. I was certain not to bring her name up in that pub. Some of the beer sippers hated every hair on her head.
Just in time for Native American History Month!
80’s group The Human League released one of their more well-known songs called “Mirror Man” which was written about Adam Ant since they thought he was becoming too full of himself.
Was Adam Ant a one-hit wonder, even in the USA?
He had loads of hits!

Famous for a range of reasons: the line dance, flipping Cinderella round, having Britain’s one-time Marilyn Monroe wannabe Diana Dors, in her swansong as the Fairy Godmother; and a stunt 1:50 into the video that would’ve had the BBC’s health and safety team an infarction.
And the dance... for Pimms O’Clock! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk4ekuVVs94 (one of the funniest drinks ad campaigns in recent years.)
Puss In Boots: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6zstmlOjLs - this is my personal favorite.
With the outright gorgeous Caroline Munro.
This was a great, upbeat song. It caused me to begin buying Adam Ant albums.
Adam Ant was not a one hit wonder
This song was a great music riff bumper music for Rush’s radio show.
Stand and Deliver was a personal fav. And Adam Ant was a non druggie, non party boy dad, IIRC. Glam imagery was stage act.
