I'm not sure of this but I think I recall hearing one,or more,Indian tribes saying that they weren't offended by the names of various sports teams. If that's true then the changes were *entirely* for the benefit for white suburban (and inner city) guys with manbuns.

The last poll I saw - a few years ago - said that 9 out of 10 American Indians were NOT offended by ‘Redskins’ and similar names.

This is like Kwanzaa - something largely bought-into by White people.

Likely true, there’s a number of articles on tribes across the country that support native American names such as Indians, Chiefs,...etc. The list includes Florida’s Seminole tribe.
