Problem with handheld is that the eclipsed moon is VERY dark, and requires a lot more exposure than the full moon. And my lens is large and unwieldy. Granted, it has image stabilization, but there’s only so much that can do. And I was counting on the tracking mount to allow me to use a long exposure to gather the necessary light instead of higher ISO settings (which is basically the camera amplifying what light it does “see”).

My phone uses a rudimentary image-stabilization but once it’s fully dark, there is no “point of light” for the stabilizer to “focus” on.

I did get a photo of my backyard under full moonlight.
Will get one under full eclipse for contrast.

Stepped outside to see what I could see. Full on cloud cover here in SoCal for election day. It never rains in California, but we are entering the second day of all day rain and clouds. Cannot see the moon or anything else for that matter. Looking forward to your pictures.
