South Americans seem to have higher expectation for honest government than we North Americans. Our election is stolen, we type. Their election is stolen, they fight.

Because “that could never happen here” is a common talking point that a lot of people believe. Unfortunately, its not true. And the reality is, the law that gets passed today is not necessarily used today to crack down. The gun control laws that were passed in Africa (Rwanda, I believe) were not used for genocide for something like 15 years after they passed, and the genocide was committed by a completely different regime.
