Getting affordable used auto parts is becoming difficult..or How the illegals are taking my lunch money (semi jesting)!

As a 5 year retired guy after a long professional carrier I took up the small business of buying, repairing and reselling lightly wrecked cars to make extra spending money.

The Recent flood of what I believe are illegal aliens is making the future survival of my part time business dubious.

TOPICS: Society
KEYWORDS: automotive; illegalimmigration; parts; vanity
Today I went to get parts off a recently added car (see link) at a self-serve junkyard to repair a civic I had purchased after it was wrecked. To my dismay, although the car was newly added, it was nearly stripped of all useable parts. The entire front end is basically gone; no doghouse, no lights, no airbag parts left, no engine, transmission or hood. For most uses it’s of no help now.

During the time I was there in the yard I saw about 8 other men and I believe very possibly all were illegals. About 4 were speaking Spanish, 2 were speaking some sort of African dialect and the last 2, who walked right past me, were speaking Arabic (i heard only 1 word I recognized which was “englese” and I think they were talking about me..not unkindly as far as I could tell). The only Understandable language I heard was between 1 of the Africans and a group of Latins and they basically were speaking a pidgin blend. On the way out I went by 2 men who were American and speaking as such, they were just leaving the building but were not on the lot and the only 2 native customers I saw.

I went to a second pull apart yard about 15 miles out of the city that had my model and year vehicle and I noticed what appeared to be a family of illegals swarming over a recently arrived Ford Pickup Truck, an F-150. A woman was removing the fuel door, a man the headlights and another man unknown as he was on the other side of the vehicle. The 2nd 9th Gen Honda Civic I needed was also picked over and worthless, although it arrived earlier, about 2 months ago.

From what I can gather many immigrants wait for recently arrived cars then immediately strip them at the self-serve yards which sell cheap parts. I suspect they then raise the prices and act as middlemen selling the once cheap parts on eBay, FaceBook etc or perhaps on their own (as an example a hood might cost 50 dollars on a you pick it lot, I saw a used one today from a used online car part retailer selling for 950 dollars).

I have to wonder how this helps “us”? Obviously it helps them to make money and it helps the owners of the self service salvage yards. Yet what of the great majority of native born Americans, what do we get out of this? The parts are becoming nearly impossible to find cheaply, many citizens who want a cheap part to repair their car or the fewer like me who depend on cheap used parts for a profit find themselves increasingly competing with military aged young desperate immigrant (7 of the 8 were that age…1 of the Africans was middle aged) men who apparently literally seem to wait daily for new vehicles to appear then pick them clean like flocks of hungry crows do to corn cobs.

Finally I wonder how many other lower income earners (uneducated, down and out, unemployed or retired like myself) in other unspecialized fields such as tree trimming, yard work, labor etc etc. Suddenly find their jobs taken by this new flood of competitors? From what I can see these immigrants are not really creating new wealth, they are simply taking the jobs already in existence. As Michael Savage said on a recent podcast he has been looking for years but hasn’t noticed any great inventors, artists, writers , entrepreneurs etc. out of this new flood yet.

Where are the Nicola Teslas?

To be sure many are decent and hardworking, some are not.

I’ve been doing this for about 3 years and I’ve seen a dramatic increase in the foreigners on these yards. This is by the way in Louisville Ky.—heartland country, I can only imagine what it must be like in places like Southern Az. Or California.

PS Moderators if this sort of personal experience is not desirable to share you can delete it.

They are all non-vaxxed and using these jobs while waiting for someone who got jabbed to keep their job drops dead from the jab so they, the non-jabbed, can take those jobs..

Is that a run on sentence? I got red marked a lot for that in school.

Its the heart of elitist, globalist ideology

Suppress wages, financialize everything for elitist financial gain, divide, disunite and dispirit average Americans for political control

' Suddenly find their jobs taken by this new flood of competitors?'

Huh? They've been doing that for decades. Americans don't like paying American prices for labor. Illegals wiped out 'americans' doing roofing and just about any other construction site. Unfortunately, nobody cares, including .gov. Homes and areas destroyed by Ian will be rebuilt and fixed with illegals.

I go to pick and pulls a lot in DFW and most pullers are immigrants, but everyone I have seen was pulling parts for them or their homies, for crap boxes, their Chrysler minivan or their Ford F150. None were pulling high dollar parts for specialty cars, that could net them higher returns on Ebay or FB. I scored a Miata 6 speed for $120 on day 40 the car was in the yard. That would have been $400 profit for 1 hour of work.

I’ve pulled multiple motors from the junkyard, and if a guy is going to do it for me for $100 extra so I don’t have to lay in the mud for 3 hours, deal.

If they keep the junkyards in business, so they’ll still be there in 5 years, more power to them.

Also, brand new civic hoods are $250.

Who in their right mind would pay $950 for one from a junkyard?

I know nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of their fellow man, but nobody is buying $950 civic hoods, so their business model is flawed and they will eventually move on.

"men who apparently literally seem to wait daily for new vehicles to appear then pick them clean like flocks of hungry crows do to corn cobs."

Surely evokes the image of a third world country, doesn't it?
What was it that President Trump called those kind of places?

You are doing a job, the Americans do not want to do!
We need the illegals to replace yourself.
You may need to do some coding instead!

I imagine this is much what many immigrants did in times past - eventually owning junkyards before the age of online sales - thus I think the real issue is whether such are legal or not.

From what you wrote it seems like there are a lot of hard working recent immigrants at the junkyard. Assuming they entered the country legally that is a good thing.

If they have found a way to make money by separating parts from junk cars at the DIY junkyards and reselling them then you could do the same thing if you wanted to.

I suspect that the more likely situation is that you happened to be trying to get parts for a car which has a lot of used parts demand. If the parts from the year and model of Civic you have really are that valuable then you should just part out the one you have.
