Matthew Perry’s battle with addiction didn’t only nearly cost him his life — it came with a staggering price tag, too.
“I’ve probably spent $9 million or something trying to get sober,” the “Friends” star admitted to The New York Times in an interview about his upcoming memoir detailing his harrowing near-death struggle.
By the time he almost died at the age of just 49, Perry also realized he had spent more than half his life in treatment centers or sober living facilities, he said.
His life as “a drug addict” — which he insists in the book is proof “there is a hell” — also cost him his dream of marriage and a family, he said.
“I think I’d be a great father,” he poignantly told the Times

My sobriety date is 3/20/1988. On 9/26 I hurt my back, pulled all the muscles in my leg and broke my hip. The pain was awful. When I started thinking about buying THC gummies for pain relief, I knew I was in trouble. Thank God, I did not relapse.

Good for him to share his story and warn others about the dangers. I’m sure this wasn’t easy to do.
He was getting paid 1 million dollars per episode for the tv show Friends (plus syndication royalties on top of that). So, it cost him only 9 out of 230+ episodes.

I saw a buddy of mine at work this morning and he gave me the “One Day At A Time” encouragement holding my arm.
Hes probably still filthy rich but the point is money, fame, a career isnt everything. There are other forces at play in everyones life. Who knows what his are.

TV and the movies show drugs and alcohol use being the cool thing to do. You can see photos galore of people passed out in the street or at home on the couch showing otherwise or looking like death warmed over.
