Using the word “shit” is a way of clearly and accurately describing something putrid and disgusting. Something that stinks.
Throughout the ages, man has seen fit to associate deceitful and slanderous words that come out of the mouth with the disgusting bodily waste that comes out the other end. This association manifests in all languages, in all cultures.
You can say “excrement” if you believe words of Latin derivation are somehow less offensive, but at least point it out and call it by name so everyone knows it’s there.
Unfortunately, bullshit is not something that is found only in barnyards. It is commonly found in Senate chambers, for example. It is found in the media. And lately, in the Oval Office.
I remember Republican senators often responding to bald faced liars like Ted Kennedy, by saying things like “We thank the honorable Senator from Massachusetts for his gracious words.. blah blah blah..”
I’d rather hear them say “That’s bullshit, you lying scumbag” - because it’s the truth.
