Three New York professionals died of fentanyl overdoses after ordering cocaine from the same drug delivery service, leading to charges for the dealer behind the deliveries.
"Julia was a driven professional with everything to live for. Never in a billion years would she have touched anything with fentanyl," Sassan Ghahramani, whose daughter Julia Ghahramani died of a fentanyl overdose, told the Wall Street Journal in a report Sunday. "This is like putting bullets in people’s brains."
Julia Ghahramani, a 26-year-old lawyer who had just started her first job, died of a fentanyl overdose in March 2021. That same day, 40-year-old trading executive Ross Mtangi and 38-year-old social worker Amanda Scher also died of a fentanyl overdose. The three professionals all ordered cocaine from a GrubHub-like delivery service on the same day, but the drugs turned out to be laced with a deadly amount of fentanyl.
The alleged drug dealer in the cases, Billy Ortega, is now facing charges of causing the three deaths and distributing drugs. He has pleaded not guilty in the case and is awaiting trial.
Prosecutors allege that Ortega was a stay-at-home dad selling drugs out of his house in rural New Jersey and used a courier, Kaylen Rainey, to deliver the drugs. Rainey was living in a Manhattan apartment registered to Ortega's family, receiving text message instructions for deliveries from Ortega.

Oh, but coCAINE is fine. Idiocy and a knee-jerk blame-others mentality.
Agree to disagree.
Yes, it was stupid for sure…
Yes, drug abusers deserve consequences for their bad choices.
But death by accidental overdose is overly harsh for them, and certainly for their families.
The drug manufacturers, traffickers and pushers who recklessly profit from this are the ones who deserve death.
Yes. High stress/high achievement men usually go to the other extreme - focus on health, nutrition, high-intensity work-outs, a form of body narcissism
If they start using drugs or alcohol, it means they are actually becoming unglued and will blow-up soon.
NYPD should put out PSA ads in social media platforms that they will for free, test everyone’s cocaine for fentanyl.
My first response to this article was the same - I was appalled by how the author made it sound like a legitimate business. There was also the underlying implication that it was shocking that an event like this could happen to such a reputable dealer. Like the dealer had quality control standards or something.
Good riddance
All the more reason to buy from your state sponsored and approved "dispensay"
dispensary
Play stupid games....
Times have sure changed from the days cocaine was snorting at Studio 54.
Trump has suggested death penalty for drug dealers.
“Never in a billion years would she have touched anything with fentanyl”
I disagree. If you’re willing to buy hard drugs from a unknown source, or any source for that matter, I suspect your willingness to do most other drugs is pretty high. Just a hunch.
Chairman Mao’s lasting legacy was to rid China of opium by going no mercy on users and pushers.
In my state there isn’t much difference.
30% THC levels are now common.
Apparently, we’ve had a glimpse into the author’s lifestyle.
AMEN to that!!!
Sounds like a good day with Kyle: lawyer, social worker, and a trader. That they are all New Yorkers is gravy.
It is obvious that we are being poisoned by the CCP manufacturers and Mexican cartel/coyote shippers, and BeijingBiden is making a bundle on the kickbacks; but, really, are the ones stupid enough to take this crappola really a loss to society?
I’ve no sympathy with addicts. The streets of most any metro area out here in CaCaLand is covered with this chaff. And, I am paying for it.
I’d bet that every druggie who does illicit drugs has offered it to others less “experienced” in the drug culture. That’s one less opportunity to corrupt another with their habit.
I see I’m not the only one who has no sympathy for them.
