Just something that drives me up the wall
Myself | 10-23-2022 | Myself

Mayne I'm making mountain out of mole hills and I just wanted to vent on something here on a simple observation I have made on society today versus what it was say from the 1980's and before. I was born in 1966 so I'm 56 years old. As time goes on, I am having more and more trouble making sense of the way the world is going today and I just scratch my head or just end up giving the old "South Park" 1000 meters stare while staving off a mental "Blue Screen of Death." I was going to type this long ago but listening to music from the 1970's and especially the 1980's (I'm a 1980's guy, often I joke, I'm an overaged 1980's teenager. B-)) and watching the Brady Bunch, it sort of lit a fire under by rump.

I work in the insurance industry for public health plans like Medicaid and Medicare, mainly the former. I go through calls and cases and I mean no ill will to anyone but I made an observation where a lot of families, especially the mothers have a different surname from the kids. This used not to be that way and it seems like this is a huge crack in families and the way of life we used to know and understand. It's getting to the point where I need a playbook to figure out who is who along with a liberal supply of graph paper. It used not to be this way. Again, maybe this is not really major to some but this is just something that drives me bananas when I see it all the time.

I really don't care who marries whom and so forth as long as all sides mutually consent with no duress, just live your own life and don't force it on me or society at large. I just think people will do what they are going to do. Even so, we are losing a lot of our values, values that kept us together fairly well until the huge cracks started in the Clinton Era onward although like many hear, the origins really go much further back than that.

I'm just an average person trying to make it in the world, working for a living, trying to keep my car running and bills paid and surviving.

There are times I felt I was in space for 30 years and came back to a world which I do not like. If I could, I'd stay as long as I can in orbit until my supplies run out, my solar cells start to conk out and batteries croak, then I'd have no choice. I just don't like this "Brave New World."

I apologize for the post, maybe to some, it is not as mportant and just something I needs to get off my chest.

Yeah, tattoos, I’m not fond of them on every part of the body but piercings really, really drive me bananas.

I think the more we mess with “God’s plan” for us, the more he shows us who’s boss of the creation and his creatures.

We creatures need to stick to our own tiny domain.

You are not alone.

I am reminded of the book “Future Shock” and the psychological concept of “too much change in too short a period of time”.

I am able to adapt and absorb to the changes confronting me - but I don’t in any way like them. I no longer recognize my country. Many (if not most) of the people around me look like they are walking around in a daze (or heavily medicated). The old civilized norms of cordial conduct are dead and gone. You can still say “hello” to your neighbor but chances are he or she will call the cops on you for it.

I thank God my parents aren’t having to cope with this crap.

Yeah, things are so fast now, I can't keep up and the change is so fast I cannot keep up or comprehend. I remember when TV was mainly black and white and if you had color, you were well off or a techno geek. I still use a 1982 Zenith for the last 40 years. I remember home computers, you had 16K to 64K of RAM and loaded programs from cassettes (if lucky a 5.25" floppy disc) and went online with a 110/300 baud modem, if lucky, 1200.

My mother passed in 2013 in November of that year. Her last Christmas in 2012, she was watching an Andy Williams special and she started to cry and weep. I knew why but ha to ask. She said, "she misses the world of Andy Williams." I had tears in my eyes too, I know we had our world taken away.

Despite the positive advances in technology, science, medical, etc., I envy those from 200 years ago living on the prarie, breaking bread together as a family, and a community that was there for a neighbor. Not for the “collective” but because of a Godly obedience to one another.

Especially medical technology, we are curing or at least managing and preventing conditions that would have caused harm or even death 100 years ago. I might have early glaucoma, I'm being monitored now, my eyes are fine but I might have to go on drops soon to prevent any damage to the eyes and like 90% plus cases can be managed that way and damage prevented as long as they follow the treatment regimen and the instructions of their optometrist. A friend of mine got it at 22 and he is 52 now and has no damage since he is on drops too If so, I'll need it for the rest of life but it is a small price to pay to preserve eyesight. In some cases cancer can be managed. We do live in a great time for things like this but overall the moral decline is what it hurting us all.

Two clues....you said you don’t care who marries who as long as there is no duress and all parties agree...that is not a given thing...that is why there are divorce lawyers, claims of sexual abuse, physical attacks, child abductions, even murder. Cause people DON’T just agree and get along when married or getting divorced. So that is one reason for breakdown in society.

Women having children with two different surnames could be due to death of the husband. Many times it is due to divorce of a stll fertile women who remarries and bears children to the new husband. That too causes social issues and splits in families with resultant stress and strife. Plus, many believe that as long as someone does WHAT THEY WANT TO, all will be well. That is a false notion. Put all that together and it helps spell dysfunctional society. I have not included alcohol, drug use, or mental illness.

IMHO. Freegards.

I did clarify a bit in another response, but, yeah, I see your point. The Cliff Notes version about marriage, the only way we can do that is amend the Constitution to define marriage between one man and one women much like Russia and the Serbians did. Normally I'm a libertarian on things but I do see where we could be on the road to detriment and that needs to be stopped. Yeah, you cannot stop people from living together for whatever reason but if a ballot was placed in front of me to vote for that hypothetical marriage amendment, I would vote a strong "Yes" if it would help turn things around. I just feel my world was taken from me as many do here.

In 2004 GA, my then 11 year old nephew came home and told his Dad and Mom this little story.

He said a girl had told him on the playground after school, that she would give him a bj. His dad asked him with a straight face, if he knew what that was? Kid says, IDK dad, but it doesn’t sound good so I ran all the way home.

So that was one innocent kid, and one very messed up one.

I am thinking in 2022, it is common knowledge for all terms and actions for children. We as a society, have fallen down on the job.

I was irritated watching the Texas MAGA rally Saturday. When the people were singing the National Anthem, some people behind Trump did not remove their hats, and neither did former President Trump. I take mine off at home. I don’t know how many times I have been elbowed in my life about that, from HS ball games, to presentation of Colors at the Legion Post. My oldest brother was Commander, and mom and dad trained us about hat rules. None in the house, take em off when meeting folks, and put them over your heart when appropriate.

I look at pics from home town football stadiums and see most of the men with jackets and ties. Compared to that generation, we’re low-class bums, IMHO.

You lost me when you wrote you do not care who marries whom. Does that mean you support gay marriage?

Well for the most part I could take or lea e it but I understand now that it is a part of the decay we are seeing so I would say no. I just think that in a legal sense perhaps we do need to amend the Consmstitution like the Russians and the Serbians did or repeal it in the Supremes Ala Roe v. Wade and work hard in each State to repeal it there. Unfortunately it is the law of the land albeit bad law. For the good of the Republic, society and our future I cannot support same sex marriage. I want my country back.

Ditto on the highly specialized stuff. I've had a lot of dental done over the years. The last time I needed a crown, the crown was installed in about 30 minutes after the imaging of the remaining tooth took place. It use to take a couple of weeks to manufacture the crown.

That said, many of these Covid 19 health experts are nothing more than shamans.

Yeah, like I said before I am most likely facing where I will have to take drops for glaucoma the rest of my life but the good thing is my eyes are still OK and with due diligence of listening to my optometrist's instructions and taking my meds, there in a greater than 90% chance where that is all I need and prevent any damage. He said to me, "I wish more people would take it as seriously as you." Anyhoo I want to keep on living, driving and having fun in life plus taking drops is a small price to pay to keep my sight as it is.

I think Big Pharma does get demonized a little too much, they do more good than harm but on the Coronavirus thing, they messed up on that one. I just think they developed the vaccines too fast and jumped past the general testing that is usually done and we are seeing the results now. My father and stepmother had all their shots but both still got the Coronavirus. My stepmother is 79, she made it through OK but my father who just turned 85, he was in hospital for 10 days with the Coronavirus, pneumonia along with his COPD. He's still weak but getting along better as much as a man with COPD and oxygen can do. He is back to yelling at the goofs the Steelers are making this year. B-)

I blame all democrats voters who voted in 1964. That election put in place the people who created the Immigration act of 1965 and the Civil rights act. Both laws completely changed the face of this country.

Me too. LBJ was an abomination and was/is a part of this too. I think we are becoming a Tower of Babrl in this country, sometimes I get calls where I can hardly understand the caller. I often joke that the future greeting will be "hey you!"

I think big Pharma is just doing what they are told to do. The same with the CDC and FDA. Dr. Malone mentioned on a video a few weeks ago that Merck had the patents to the mrna technology and didn't do much with it. When the patents ran out Moderna and Pfizer picked up the technology at the urging of intel agencies. Creating vaccines the old fashioned way is too slow and the hope was mrna would work. It looks to me like the technology is mostly a failure..
