Biden’s ‘Tammany’ machine revs up
New York Post ^ | 22 Oct, 2022 | Michael Goodwin

You don’t have to agree with Washington Democrats to acknowledge they are putting on a clinic in how to use power to reward their friends and punish their enemies. From canceling student debt to freeing federal pot prisoners to restricting oil and gas production to getting arch-nemesis Steve Bannon locked up, they are ending their two-year run with a bang.

Their conclusion came last week when the partisan Jan. 6 committee issued a subpoena to former President Donald Trump. The timing was impeccable.

After managing to stretch out the panel’s work for nearly two years, Nancy Pelosi’s worker bees saw to it that the Trump subpoena conveniently dropped just before the midterm elections. Given the likelihood the subpoena will not be adjudicated before the current Congress expires in December, the chief purpose is to keep Trump’s name in the headlines, because nothing stokes lefty voters and unites factions like hating him. It’s practically a requirement for party membership these days.

If the polls are right, the GOP will take the House and maybe the Senate, leaving little chance Trump will ever be forced to testify. Still, Republicans should learn from the Dems’ ruthless use of power to advance their agenda and not fritter it away with their usual intramural squabbling.

Will the GOP work together to undo leftist harm? Will they supoena leftist power brokers to testify before committees with a real threat of jail time? I doubt it.

Well they need to start doing lawfare like the dems do unless they want communism in America. We are either going to be a banana republic or communist at this point (thanks to the democrats).

State’s Attorney Generals need to start prosecuting all Biden’s friends, family, and associates. Hunter Biden is an easy one, but go after every and anyone that benefits from Joe Biden in office. Make them defend themselves in court in front of a jury. Who cares if they end up not being guilty make the process the penalty (like democrats do to the GOP). If you get a conviction that’s bonus. Oh and if any judge drops charges, prosecute that judge’s family too. Make them fight the charges.

If the GOP can’t get off their moral high horse and fight fire with fire we are headed to communism and then eventually a new civil war (but that’s years down the road).

If we take both houses in a few weeks and the long knives don’t come out that’ll be your first clue we’ve been played again. If you hear “We are too busy cleaning up the mess the democrats have made or everything, you’ll know.

My first major lesson in politics was reading the book “Plunkett of Tammany Hall” in 1968 or 1969. It remains true while most of the other political readings have faded away.

Yes. And Mr. George Washington Plunkett (and his worshipful biographer at the shoe shine stand in City Hall) seems like a paragon of virtue and rectitude by today's standards.

"Don't touch the Penal Code Tree." If only todays Democrats would live up to that standard!

Plunkett’s famous quote: “I seen my opportunities, and I took ‘em.”

Fat chance.

Love his description of the Civil Service Exam - and can't say I disagree.

I think that quote was what he wanted to have on his gravestone - "He seen his opportunities, and he took 'em."

It looks like he doesn't have a headstone (Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Queens) so too bad, we'll never know. As somebody said of that much more obnoxious Jersey City boss, Frank "I Am the Law" Hague, "Once the big guy is gone, he can't do anything for anybody."

Found my actual printed copy in the upstairs study, hiding out in the European history section for some reason.

We are both right! At the beginning of Chapter 1, "Honest Graft," he says your version: "I might sum up the whole thing by sayin', 'I seen my opportunities and I took 'em.'"

At the conclusion of the chapter, he recapitulates:

"If my worst enemy had the job of writing my epitaph after I'm gone, he couldn't do more than write:

George W. Plunkett. He Seen His Opportunities, and He Took 'Em."

I love it when EVERYONE is right! (so was Mr. Plunkitt, for that matter! And bless Bill Riordan of the old New York Evening Post for writing it all down!)
