One can recline without going all the way back to a 180 degree flat plane (no pun intended). Then, your head is intruding into that back seat passengers space. Not good.
Try a more modest 45 degree angle, to remove some stress on the lower back.
no... the a$$hole behind you who keeps bumping the back of your chair and then grabs your back and uses it to abruptly pull them selves to stand up!! I wanna stand up and smack all of them!! Aaargh!!
If the airlines didn’t want to allow passengers to recline in their seats, they would have seats like Spirit Airlines that don’t recline. If I’m on an overnight flight, I will recline my seat after the meal.

You don’t fly much do you?
Airline seats recline MAYBE 15 degrees max in economy.
In the past decade I have only had seats that tilt 2-3 inches, closer to a normal sitting chair. Nothing close to something you can comfortable sleep in. The upright position is 90 deg. and you would fall face forward if you dozed off.
This would also make the recline more relaxing and comfortable for those who reclined.
It would also be moot if the seats were spaced further apart or if there was some section between coach and business that had a bit more space and only cost a bit more.
There are a couple of airlines that have this, but most airlines charge an arm and a leg for a bit more legroom.
You can always buy the seat in front of you. Then no one will recline and bother you. And if YOU want to recline, you can move to that seat, recline all you want and not bother anybody.
I fly all the time. Not as bad as the media makes it sound. Coast to coast train travel? No thanks! I have things to do!
Exactly! The straight up kills my back. I have to recline!
Yep and the airlines that pack in the passengers? BLESS THEIR HEARTS! I hate them.
Journalism is now reflecting reddit.com/r/unpopularopinion complaints.
Sigh.
Last flight- november 2001
Not missing it at all.

You must not be retired. I flew often when I was still working; but I’ve been retired for six years. Time is more leisurely when you retire.
I usually don’t recline because I’m short and it’s uncomfortable to lean back unless I want to sleep, which I usually don’t do on airplanes.
I don’t mind if the person in front of me reclines… if we weren’t meant to recline our seats we wouldn’t have that little button.
Some folks are downright aggressive and slam their seats back the second the flight attendant says we’ve hit altitude. I find that a little annoying. If I ever do put mine back I do it gently.
But I mostly fly JetBlue and Southwest, which both has probably the best legroom in the business. In either case, I believe reclining your seat is very disrespectful to the people behind you.
I also think it is very disrespectful to shove your luggage in the overhead bins. I always check my bags and carry just a laptop bag that goes under my seat. I haven't used an overhead bin since the 1980s.
I’m reclining my seat. I don’t give a crap who gets mad at me.
I agree. Reading the replies is making me scratch my head a bit. So many Karens..... The seat reclines for a reason. So use it! As soon as the plane leaves the ground I hit the recline button, and so does the person in front of me. And its no big deal
I am almost 1,000,000 miler on Delta. I do not recline the seat when it could intrude upon someone behind me, eating, etc. simple courtesy. The airline should be giving people more space.
When I fly with my Dog, he is required by the FAA to have enough space in his carrier to stand up and turn around. The requirement should be the same for human beings!
