**the modern day Carpetbaggers moved in**

I’m a country boy from Suez township, Mercer county IL, that upon insistance of my wife, moved to TN almost 6 yrs ago. Our youngest son and family are down here. The grandkids were the biggest magnet. We are about 70 miles SW of ‘crashville’ (as us truck drivers call it).

I simply can’t relate to city living. We haven’t gone to downtown Nash for anything but a couple of political rallies. I have trucked in big cities enough to always look forward to getting out of them.

Where we lived in IL was very rural, with 11 people within a 1 mile radius of our house (including the wife and I). Lewis county TN has about the same population as Mercer county IL, but with half the square miles. And even though we live rural here, there are (that I know of) a least 60 people within a 1 mile radius of us.

I first went to Nashville in 1988 as our company had a convention there and we rented the Ryman Auditorium. At that time, Nashville was a sleepy kind of town (compared to today) that was just before the modern country explosion with the likes of Clint Black, Randy Travis, Alan Jackson and Garth Brooks. Back then, my then hometown of Boston did not even have a country station on the FM dial.

Been there several times since and I am always amazed at how much bigger it got since last time I was there. It's definitely a fun place but getting very expensive and just a block or two away from the action, you run into the poverty stricken, crime ridden areas that you get in most major cities these days. Traffic is horrendous as well. Last time there, I just used Uber and it was a much better way to get around then to rent a car and hunt for the expensive parking spots.
