I recall an FBI estimate that at any given point in time there are between 30 and 60 active serial killers in the United States.

Not sure I’m remembering the numbers exactly, but that’s in the ball park.

It is sort of like looking for the lost coin under the street lamp because the light is better there.

Of course I am as doubtful of "criminal profiling" as I am of any other brand of physiology. I hold physiologist and professional physics in about the same amount of esteem. Questionable as to which does more damage to the world.
