Nope, they ain't takin' my Ruger 10/22, nope!

So CSI: Vegas decided that, instead of a show about 'assault-style weapons', they did one about trailer park rednecks and a Ruger 10/22.

Here's a link to the show. They called it a 'murder weapon', a 'sniper weapon', before they finally figured out it was shot into air and hit the victim by accident.

But they must have said 'Ruger 10/22' seven or eight times.

I remember the old Cannon series where the main character routinely pulled off 100 to 200 yd shots with his .38 snubby

Every house in America should have a 10-22. The takedown model is a great trunk gun.

Nothing against the 10-22, but I'm more of a Glenfield (Marlin) Model 60 guy.

My state doesn't allow loaded rifles in a vehicle. Add to that the takedown, and there's two actions you have to do before you can fire. A loaded AK pistol, on the other hand, is perfectly fine.

I put a folding stock on mine so I can shoot couch commando style.

Those snubbies are wicked. Broderick Crawford and Jack Webb were deadly, shooting from the hip.

I recently watched all episodes of "Highway Patrol". I used to laugh at Broddy when he'd shoot his snubby. No aiming. Just firing in a general direction of the bad guy and hit him too. A true marksman, in my book!!!

I think it was Cheaper Than Dirt, or somebody like that, who sold all this crap to make one’s 10/22 look like the scariest, most evil ‘assault weapon’ ever.

Ruger makes them, too.

You want a 10/22 that looks like the A-Team?

How about one that looks like an SKS?

And of course you can have one that looks like the scary black Assault Weapon:

1) Keep your 10/22 clean. .22LR is a very dirty cartridge so you should field strip and clean after every range session, especially the bolt.

2) Use High-Velocity ammunition. I use CCI Mini-Mags almost exclusively in mine.

I kinda like that one. Looks like something a Star Wars Imperial Trooper would carry.

Cong Pete McCloskey a lib Goper and Marine vet was being interviewed in the late 70s. He said handguns should be outlawed. When asked about a woman who wanted one for home defense he said that she should buy a Carbine as it’s easy to handle.

I’m still haunted by the footage and photos of the SWAT teams patrolling neighborhoods in Boston during and after the Marathon attacks.

Rifles AIMED at innocent people just looking out their windows. And massholes - as you said - tolerated it.

When I travel to Europe the people there can swarm me to talk about the US. The conversation nearly always devolves to them not only tolerating tyranny, but CRAVING it. It happens generationally.

They literally do not understand the idea of defending yourself.

Jams: Two things come to mind. I’ve worked on dozens, or more, 10/22’s over 4 decades or so. Since they are “blowback” operated they do load themselves up with powder residue so keeping the chamber, the bolt way, and the extractor clean is necessary. They’re good for 500 rounds max before they need a takedown cleaning. The other problem point is the extractor. Being stamped they sometimes have a bit of roughness that the factory should have polished out such that they don’t extract cleanly.
And they will not function reliably with anything less powerful than premium long rifle cartridges. The system is good-—just not as forgiving as, say, a Remington 552/572.

Plain old Ruger 10/22 but with stainless barrel and walnut stock.
Nice gun. I used to have one.

After they ban all semi auto’s, sniper weapons, hand guns, they will come after shotguns. The most American and common of all rural firearms. After you register it of course...

Maybe this thread will turn into a gun porn thread.

I just lost my Mossberg 500 in a tragic boating accident.

I was able to retrieve the Ruger .357 GP 100.

I loved that Mossberg...

The time old question of: “If you could have only one gun”...

My choice would be a Remington 870 18.5 inch barrel.

Use to have one. -Damn boating accident...

Ammunition suited to the need and avoids over penetration, but absolutely existential stopping power with fewest shots fired.
