What killed the draft was the way history played out after the last one ended.

Once we reached the point in our history where draft dodgers ended up better off than those who did what they were told, the credibility of the U.S. government was completely destroyed and nobody would have any reason to listen to their government leaders again when it came to consequential matters.

It would take armed press gangs going door-to-door to enforce a draft. Especially when there’s no real national emergency. Even if there was, I doubt anyone would show up as long as the internet and cell service was still working.
