Wawa, founded in 1964, is headquartered in Chester Heights, which sits just outside of Philadelphia. The convenience store chain has grown a cult following, not only in the city, but in other states up and down the East Coast as it expanded in recent years.

Reality check: I grew up in South Jersey with a Wawa in the neighborhood. It was fantastic. So much better than 7-11 with a fresh deli and great hoagies where they'd cut the meat in front of you. They had deals with local dairies and had their own Wawa ice cream and milk, etc. But those days are gone. Still head and shoulders above 7-11 but the "fresh" food is pretty much all shipped in, shrinkwrapped and ready to be ripped open and put on a roll. Their hoagies remain okay but there are better places all around us here in the Philly area.

As they've grown and expended they've been stripping away what made it special.

There might be better places at the moment in Philly, but they are probably in danger too. Wawa is very popular here in the Lehigh Valley, and so far, nobody is robbing them.
