Yep, shingles here too. The pox all over my body so bad as a kid my family was praying for my recovery.

Then early 90s I got shingles, stressing over divorce and kids. It was like acne on my right temple, headaches so bad with pressure building so bad thought my eyeball was gonna pop. Took the meds (forgot script name) then eventually switched to lysine and usually only reoccurs with mild shingles bouts in the fall.

But about 5 years ago I must have been stressing over laser surgery on my eyes. Even though the surgeons, staff and I all went through a long series of health history questions no one thought to ask about shingles. So the day of the surgery shingles breaks out on the tip of my nose. Decided that was God telling me save your money, skip the surgery.

I barely suffered at all. Good stuff to have on hand, and lemon balm aka “lemon bomb” is very easy to grow.

Well, please understand that I was just winging it. I had this big bottle of 500 mg capsules. I would take them whenever I got cold sores (thank you for spreading them to me, DH!) and also split smaller doses from them to give to a cat (RIP) who had a mouth sore issue. When I got shingles, figuring all this herpes stuff was related, I started taking 3 capsules a day. Honestly, I don’t know what helped me more, that, or the homeopathic remedy, or a machine my best friend found from a friend and loaned me (long story), or the combined effect of them all. But I recovered quickly from the shingles.

Since then I have read that L-Lysine (among other supplements) is very good for the hair and skin, so I’ve continued to take a capsule a day. Hopefully this means that I’ll never get shingles again, or another cold sore either. LOL

L-lysine and colloidal silver was what my doctor recommended.
Got to catch it when the first pain stings you, to.

To my knowledge, nothing prevents cold sores but there are mitigation techniques that my down-home family doctor told me about.
He graduated med-school in immunology but found a great family doctor as a mentor in residency and moved to FamPractice.
He retired in 2016.

Speaking of cats reminds me that a few years ago I was keeping some cats for a family member that moved out of state. Supposed to have been until they got settled and would come back for the cats, but after a few months they moved back here. Anyway, while I was catsitting, one of them had sneezing fits quite often for several days. At one point, she sneezed so hard she fell over. She was ok, but I looked on the internet to see if there was anything I could give her before having to take her to the vet. I gave her l-lysine. I had 500 mg pills on hand. I cut them in half, crushed a half, and put the powder in wet food. She got over the sneezies after a few days and is still alive at about 12 years old now. :)

Thanks. I was thinking doing both couldn't hurt. The lemon balm tincture as a topical and the tea and l-lysine as internal.
