I have known many very wealthy individuals over the years, who were children of the Great Depression and who became wealthy by working blue collar jobs for 40+ years and never spending anything. Many people whose families lost everything in the Great Depression saved money for the rest of their lives because they were afraid that they could someday lose everything again.
Generally, their children had no problem spending it all after their parents died.
Absolutely.
I am lucky to be married to a woman who is very fiscally responsible, and she never agitated for a bigger house, more furniture, expensive cars, etc.
We have lived within our means our whole life, saved everywhere we could, paid off our small ranch early, and have been living debt-free for decades.
The way things are going, it will all be taken away, by inflation, economic crash, and poor policy, and are likely to be as destitute as anyone else, but...we did our part and tried responsibly. I am proud of that, and thank God for my like-minded spouse.
