First, they defied the male dominion over the Afro-Cuban Santeria religion by being secretly ordained. Then, they shocked the patriarchy by performing a ritual long considered the exclusive preserve of men.
Twenty years after first breaking the glass ceiling, Cuba's Santeria priestesses are still battling to claim their place.
The Santeria religion is hundreds of years old -- a mix of beliefs brought to Cuba by Yoruba slaves from West Africa, and Catholicism.
Experts say about 70 percent of Cubans are followers of Santeria.

70 percent of Cubans are followers of Santeria?
Good job Fidel. You turned your population over to Satan.

I was in Havana in 1993, not long after the Russians and East Germans cleared out. The people were unbelievably poor and deprived of most of what we take for granted. Food was scarce, and a simple cheese sandwich on white bread was an unbelievable grommet meal for most. In the downtown Miramar section of Havana, whole families lived in one room and a row house might accommodate five or six families. I never saw a window with glass in it or fresh paint anywhere in that area. Each block was ruled over by a government watcher, aided by innumerable lesser snitches. The watchers were not hard to spot, as they held themselves out like medieval lords and seethed authority. But even they, as everyone, else made way in awe for the Santeria priestesses in their tall white turbans who moved down the street as if they were floating.
So far as I could tell, Santeria was nearly universal there to a greater or lesser degree. It was blended with orthodox Catholicism, with each Santeria saint having a corresponding identity as a Catholic saint. If I recall correctly, for example, the Santeria goddess Ochun, was the same as St. Barbara.

You know what America could really use? A bunch of these santeria savages invading our nation thanks to open borders and mass 3rd world immigration. Amiright? Diversity is the national religion, so bring these satanic savages on in! Sign them up to vote as soon as they hit the shores and don’t forget their welfare bennies!

" Nor even close to Satan. Has nothing to do with evil. " Then you do not have the Satan of the Bible, the actual one.

sorry but the afro-cuban religion has zero to do with evil or satan, its a highly spiritual nature religion. because of the slave trade the brought the blacks to cuba, PR, haiti, DR, brazil. they infused Catholic names.
