There's a great interview with Miles Davis, and he was asked who he thought was the best up-and-coming musician.

He said Prince.

Article written by Lisa Wells is ignorant about Starland Vocal Band’s “Afternoon Delight” has an interesting history, it being approved by Phil Ramone and John Denver. Google “the story behind afternoon delight” to cut through the ignorance.

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung Would you hear my voice come through the music? Would you hold it near as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken Perhaps they're better left unsung I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air

Robert Hunter, Grateful Dead

My dad used to play Altered Images’ Happy Birthday on loop, on people’s birthdays. That’s worse than being waterboarded with skunk musk. But they did some good stuff. Have a new album out apparently...

I hated Laurie Andersen’s O Superman when it came out, now I think it’s genius... right up there with Kraftwerk.

What’s aged more badly than Sixties ‘coming of age’ stuff sung by middle aged men. “You’re sixteen, you’re beautiful, and you’re mine”; “better run girl, you’re much too young girl” and all that. Biden probably likes it.

Obviously, "Afternoon Delight" is awful, nobody wants to hear about Fergie's humps, and I can think of two Captain and Tennille songs that ought to be on the list.

But pop music is just supposed to have a a catchy tune or rhythmic groove and represent the time it was popular, so rock criticism is beside the point (assuming the rock critics' point isn't just to sound like pompous idiots).

You have to check out Prince’s shows at Montreux on You Tube. Just phenomenal. Any style of music, he nails it.

That’s high praise. He truly was talented, a little odd, but talented.
Often very intelligent or very artistic people are a little off. It seems there’s a price to pay for being special.

I got to see Donovan open for Yes one time.

To hear Rick Wakeman and Chris Squire backing him up on ‘Atlantis’ was awesome.

Yep, quoting myself.

I am maybe very alone in this regard, but I hate every Journey song....

Journey is the only ‘band’ I will immediately change the channel on every.single.time.

I actually knew a girl named Alyssa Jones when I was a kid. She was the granddaughter of Grandpa Jones, from Hee Haw fame, and she lived in a “holler” in Tennessee. She was visiting at the neighbor’s house next door to mine, and for a few days, we played together from sun up to sun down.

Anything by Tater Swuft.

LOL - I hear about her, but I honestly can’t think of any of her songs. I’ve probably heard snippets of them in stores and stuff, but I’m genuinely (and blissfully) unaware of her music.

Thank goodness someone like me! It’s an immediate reaction. Uncanny how many places I go and J plays. It’s horrible.
