In Maine election judges are classified into several groups:
Wardens-overall in charge, clerks-those who handout ballots, assist in putting ballots into the machine, and a registrar (not sure of the title) who registers new votes and those changing wards. All of these judges are under the direction of city or town employees. There is a requirement that at least one registered Democrat and one registered Republican be present when voting occurs. Also, one of each is required to be present after the polls cloased and the tallys run and recorded. Each party memeber signs off on the results.

I will be working as an election clerk from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm. The polls are open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. Only those people standing in line at 8:00 pm are permitted to vote.
In the five years I worked elections no one has been in line at exactly 8:00 pm. So we close the voting and run the tallies.

For whatever reason, Republican slots have been difficult to fill. I guess the country club RINOs are just to busy.

Yes, The best way to keep elections fair.
Inspector and judges are the positions which can actually stop the fraud!
The fraud can only happen when there are no Republican judges/inspectors!
Please, do it!

“For whatever reason, Republican slots have been difficult to fill. I guess the country club RINOs are just to busy.”

It can also be difficult to fill some R slots because they are in neighborhoods where Republicans might not feel safe. I do not believe there are any Republican neighborhoods where Democrats are not safe. In Maryland, back when I served as an election judge, Republican slots in some precincts, would be legally filled by Democrats.

It was suspected that there were some shenanigans as the polls closed when there was no one left but Democrat election judges. That was old time cheating just voting for people who did not show up at the poll on Election Day.

In Maryland, election judges had to be at the Poll from abut 7 AM to 9 PM which was a 14 hour day, far too long for many retired people who provided lots of judges. I did not understand why they didn’t have three shifts, early, middle and late. There would be a lot more people signing up to work, including many parents of school-age children on the middle shift. Perhaps this has changed.

Don’t be hard on the Republicans, most of us work.

The Dems tend to be on SSI or welfare or are students, you know?
