Thanks. Bureaucrats—uniform through time and space.
I got yer post-burger beach babe here:
Enjoy!
You mean besides the 7 billion dollars in equipment left behind in Afghanistan?
I was 40 hour OSHA trained and for a long time kept the certification current via periodic refreshers. This is common in a number of industries. The test itself is a generic standard but the flavor of the course is strongly influenced by the background of the instructors. In my case, the instructors were two former firemen that formed their own hazardous response company. The anecdotes of their experiences still stick with me and made me more aware when dealing with situations.
These are things that occurred in rural southwest Virginia.
A hunter came across an old shack in the woods that had several wooden cases inside. He opened a case, saw dynamite and backed out, called the sheriff. Firemen were called and when they saw the dynamite they backed out. The dynamite was old and sweating nitroglycerin. Drop or bump a stick gives a nice kaboom. The Hazop specialist were called out and they did a controlled explosion. No more shack. Likely the dynamite was leftover from an old farmstead and used for stump removal.
Next…. A Hunter came across several several barrels out in the woods, called the sheriff, sheriff called the fire department and the FD called the hazop specialists. There are procedures and safety equipment used to sample barrels with unknown contents. I've done it myself a few times. These were not typical barrels. Silver metal barrels and appeared to be armored. They took pictures and found serial numbers.
Next, they contacted barrel manufacturers, eventually finding out that they were used for transporting extremely hazardous materials. The serial numbers were used by Feds to track the barrels to an out of business company that made rocket fuel for the government. A federal crew came in to recover the barrels out of the woods then transport them to a safe disposal.
So…. Weird things can be hidden out in the woods. Be aware out there.
A guy brought one to a party and set it off, it was quite nasty. Wouldn’t want to be too close to it at detonation. Made my oxygen-aceatylene box bombs seem weak...
hahahahahahahahaha!
Civilians!
I was talking about the one that was detonated at the party in the mid-80’s. Same one as seen in your photo example.
Dang!
Had a flashback and briefly wondered if another jap sub was still out there...
