But there are still plenty of Indians hats and jerseys there.
Yeah, I saw that ... and am not a little surprised the cowards in the front office haven’t banned that, too ... but I’ll bet it’s under consideration.
Hey, don’t shoot the messenger. I’m just stating an objective fact. Sure, other teams can make claims, but every real football fan knows who’s being referenced when you say:
Cowgirls, talk about a name sticking.
I'd hate to think what the Lions are.
They can stake claims, so can the Pats and a bunch of others though.
But when you hear “America’s Team” mentioned in any parlance, every football fan knows who you’re talking about.
You can argue all you want, but you’re always be arguing against the Cowboys being America’s Team, which shows that they hold the obvious title.
No one cares if they were an expansion team 60 years ago. EVERYONE knows who’s being referenced, and to pretend any different is just being childish. Fire away, because again, you’ll be arguing against the accepted and acknowledged title holder.
Making the case that “everyone says ...” which means the MSM and maybe NFL Films, is NOT the kind of case to make onthis board.
It sounds like you are pretending that the title is “Settled Science”. Freepers don’t buy into the non-reasoning.
I think it was Bum Phillips that said, “The Cowboys may be Americas Team, but the Oilers are Texas’ team.”
So you have your own personal “America’s Team” that’s different from the real world? Great! Enjoy that.
Well they’ve got the label. Just like how baseball has the “America’s Past Time” label. Doesn’t mean they actually earn it anymore. They’re not really that popular anymore. With very little on field success for over 25 years. I always giggle when Skip Bayless goes on about how teams get “up” to face the Cowboys, most NFL players have no living memory of the Cowboys being worth a damn. Yes they are called “America’s Team”, cause labels stick long after they stop being true. Like calling my snot rags Kleenix even though they’re Puffs brand.
What’s your definition of popular? The Cowboys had (continuing a decades-long trend) the highest average attendance of any NFL team, about 25% higher than the next highest set of teams. Second place and the rest aren’t even close. Even tiny Green Bay outperforms major markets like Philly, Baltimore, and the major coastal teams. But no one even approaches the Cowboys in stadium attendance.
They’re also the most valuable sports franchise in the world, ahead of the Yankees and Real Madrid, while at the same time having the highest gross revenue of any global sports franchise at $1 billion. Again, no other team worldwide really comes close.
That’s great for local. But “America’s Team” needs to travel well. Turning road games into home games because of how many fans they have everywhere. I’m not sure they have that anymore. Not to the level of the Packers or the Steelers.
The Cowboys’ global revenue generation as a franchise is about double what the Packers and Steelers pull in. The Cowboys also pulled the highest TV ratings of an NFL team last year; they played in the top 2 highest rated games in 2021, and also played in 5 of the top 10 highest rated regular season games; the Packers were in 3 and the Steelers zero.
They dominate every popularity category by a massive and wide margin.
