In 1953, Queen Elizabeth drove around and waved to crowds of school kids lining the streets.
I attended that school with Maggie Thatcher’s Secretary of Education- Gil Watts.
1963. Worked for Jim Brown, mayor of Tybee Island, Ga
1965 Worked with John Rousakis in Savannah. GA - in insurance - he became mayor of Savannah, Ga.
2012 Johns Hopkins - my physician’s and Ben Carson’s reception areas were adjoined.
Tony Snow was being treated in the DC physician’s office where I worked.
Atty.Gen. William Sessions and I, nearly got hit by a car while jay-walking in DC.
Father of the Metro = Carlton Sickles. gave me his 38 year service pin when a colleague told him I used the Metro every day.
I made a phone call to The Washington Times and Wesley Pruden answered it - we chatted a while - nice man.
2003. Worked with Patrick Hope, now a Dem rep. for Virginia.
Flew on a plane with Cal Ripken.
Saw Gerald Ford up close.
Saw Billy Idol up close at a local TV station - he was sweet.
We all share the oxygen with people who are alive NOW - Enjoy those moments!!
Yikes!
That's Sonny when he was with the Eagles.
My claim to fame involved two famous “big time” wrestlers.
One guy I worked with delivered Ric Flair’s mail.
Another picked up Bruno Sammartino’s garbage, two bags every week.
Bet she kept it so she could remind herself every single day how blessed her life was!
That’s pretty cool.
Man, that’s nuts. God obviously had a plan for your life!
Would love to know who your famous guitarist nephew is, but would be very satisfied with a PM if that works for you.
I have a soft spot for musicians. They usually *are* starving artists that nobody ever gets to hear how great their work is. I’m glad your nephew made it to the big time. It’s so hard to do.
You need to write that book.
I knew Jeff Skilling. At the time I knew nothing about Enron. It was about a year before it all blew up. We had dinner. He was a total gentleman, very smart, very interesting.
Met Tommy Heinson, sat next to him on a plane. Didn’t know who he was. He said he could get me tickets to the Celtics games and wanted to give me tickets for that night. I figured anybody who could do that was on the shady side, maybe with the mob so I declined. (Turns out he was married and had a girlfriend.)
Also met a guitar person on a plane. Sat next to him for a few hours. He was with Aerosmith. What a great time. No, he has not given up alcohol - no way. LOL He was great
My favorite brush with ‘fame’ was when I last minute jumped on an elevator one night in a hotel in Boston and in the elevator were about 7 or 9 very tall black men. I was started and said, What is this, a basketball team? They nodded yes. OMG I said wow, what are you doing here in Boston? Yes, that was a dumb question although probably not as bad as the earlier question. They responded they had just played the Celtics. Unfortunately, I said, did you win? No. I was stunned and hit the button for the 3rd floor. That was a good thing. There were two women on the elevator with them who were giving me the evil eye.
I have more stories too, maybe about Alan Dershowitz and ... but none of them can compare with wardaddy’s stories.
#2 Can you ask Tom Silva the following..... : )
The second-floor lintels between the lally columns, should we rabbet them?
Yeah, from the blueprints you can’t tell.
Ask if he want they should be rabbeted?
Paraphrasing “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House” 1948
I was startled, not started.
Sorry, we haven’t spoken in years. I just never delete numbers.
Couple of my favorites:
Had a nice 1 on 1 conversation with Jesse Owens when I was young.
Scatman Crothers sang "Happy Birthday" to me...also when I was young
I’m a very boring person.
Met Tim Russert - down to earth guy.
Met Barber Conable, former Congressman from WNY. He did not accept any campaign contributions greater than $50. No doubt that some slobbering mouth breathers will claim he was essentially a Dem because he had to work with Dems as ranking member on the House Ways & Means Committee. But he was in the House when Dems had control of the House for quite a while. Conable (or a staffer of his) is also credited by many as the author of the tax code revision that spawned the 401(k):
“As the January 2000 issue of Pensions & Investments magazine noted, “When Rep. Barber Conable, Rochester, N.Y., inserted section (K) into Section 401 of the Internal Revenue Code… little did anyone know the impact it would have.”
-see https://humbledollar.com/2022/04/the-accidental-401k/
Oh, met Peter Pyle, generally considered the expert on using bird molt to determine the age of birds.
As I said, I am boring!
#116 I want to know who the “A leggy blonde actress met on a diverted flight forward class in 87” is : )
Was it one of the Heathers of the 1980’s?
I always heard that Moe stayed in character when he met fans.
#151 Then I will call up Norm and ask him.... thanks : )
#142 they is something about that photo of the football team I can’t get my finger on....
Got it!! They all have short haircuts and no tattoos!
Let’s see.
I met Billy Joel and welcomed him to our city. He was unimpressed which was cool
I met Jimmy Buffett and he was really nice.
I was in theater with the woman who played the mom of the scary girl in the movie The Ring. She has done lots of other stuff and I sometimes see her on NCIS or Law and Order. We are FB friends.
I was at a FR event, talking to Chris Hitchens when we met a guy who work at Madison Square Garden. I turned and asked Tony if they had played at MSG and he told us they had the attendance record at MSG. The MSG guy asked which band and Tony said “A band called Yes. Have you heard of it?” . It was Tony Kaye.
I provided the Spinach Dip at the March for Justice and when Anne Coulter found out why it is there, she got sick.
Cool - I like that one.
Watched Forbidden Planet in Nixons White House basement movie theater with about forty other guys. They had to do something with us till we preformed. I Was in the Glee Club of Valley Forge Military Academy performing for Nixon. Did it in the East room. Saw Nixon up close, Agnew, Kissinger, Speaker of the house etc. I think if i had had a hand grenadine I could have destroyed much of the Govt. LOL
