Why is his garage on the side of the house like that? I’ve never seen that kind of thing garage arrangement.

Corner house. My first one was similar with the address facing one street and the garage facing another.

It’s great for corner lots. I hate having garage doors out front. Everyone can tell if you accidentally leave it open.

The garage on the side is common on corner lots. If your house faces a busy street, you don’t have to pull into traffic. It also makes the front of the house lok better to some.

Huh?
Lots of houses are like that.
Not so much cookie-cutter houses of the last 30+ years, because they want to build cheap. Get as many houses shoved in there as possible, which means straight driveways out the front of the house.
But it’s better looking than the cheap forward-facing garage.
