“Hydrogen gas leaks through everything”
The amount of hydrogen leaking out through the walls of a sealed battery is negligible.
“Differential rates of leakage from a small container into a large compartment will create temporary accumulations in the larger compartment. The larger compartment at lower pressure will leak at a slower rate.”
What is the diff pressure across the battery casing?
“That is why rooms containing high-power lithium batteries must be ventilated.”
That is not why.
PTOH, if they are ventilated no accumulation will occur.
So...did you do it?
Static electricity, I’m guessing. Gasoline vapors are highly volatile, sometimes it doesn’t take much to set them off.
Grow up.
Definitely looks like a nat gas or propane explosion to me. From the building. Blocks from the building are on the street.

Propane or natural gas blew them out?
The building blew up from inside.
Not entirely true. Lead acid or Nickel Iron batteries are most common for large storage because of their longevity and lower price. They can not be sealed. Lithium ion or lithium titanate batteries, yes, but they do not offgas.

Absolutely true.
And flooded lead acid batteries have the shortest life.
