They tried mandating Obummer Care and vax shots, and neither of those worked out very well. They can mandate all they want, but the world runs on Oil.
My dad restored a 1915 Rauch and Lang electric car for Harrah’s Museum many years ago. It was a very large and beautiful car that moved out pretty well. The car sold new for around $3000.00 in 1915!
I got stuck in a two hour traffic jam (from an accident) when it was a 100 degrees out. Once traffic started moving the side of the road had a parade of non moving teslas.
“The car sold new for around $3000.00 in 1915!”
Only for the very wealthy, fortunate few, way back then. I don’t know what that’d be in today’s dollars, but I assume it’d be a princely sum.
Kudos to your Dad.
You also have to figure in never actually getting the range advertised plus add in the cost of the replacement battery or lack of resale value as the battery starts to degrade. Worry about the percent of charge as full up degrades the battery. Worry about a charging station nearby and hoping it is not crowded or may not be working.
The higher insurance cost. The cost of installing a 240 volt line if you have a home to do so plus the inconvenience of charging the car outdoors in all kinds of weather due to fire danger and the higher electric bill plus the worry of being barbecued while driving or while at home. Plus copper thieves stealing the charging cable line.
Our gas and electric bills are much much higher to subsidize fantasy electric cars and solar power and windmills.
Viking kitty’s last post was in 2004, at least under that handle..
I’d considered EVERYBODY’S insurance rates being higher because that’s the purpose of insurance...spreading the financial risk. I’d never considered “Our gas and electric bills are much much higher to subsidize fantasy electric car...”.
You’re right...and that ticks me off. As a matter of fact, Duke Energy is in our neighborhood right now upgrading the neighborhood service. We’ve long had trouble with the ‘hood power going out with the slightest storm. They’re installing these huge power boxes along the main road thru here...about every block. Seriously...they’re a good 6’ x 6’ by 4’ tall...on a huge concrete foundation. They look like WW2 German machine gun bunkers. Duke isn’t doing this for free. Our rates are sure to go up.
Other than effect, have no idea. Perhaps you should ask the person who drew the cartoon. /s
