I am 82 years old. Which means I have 32% chance (age-50 is my formula) of some form of cancer present in prostate. I hope Old age will kill me before that prostate cancer, based on data.
But there is no excuse to skip yearly PSA test. Medicare covers it 100%. If cancer escapes out of prostate gland, it will most likely show up on elevated PSA numbers.
One reason I do not worry much about cancers or heart disease is my regular aerobic esxercise 5 days every week.
It is not only kept me out of doctor’s office for 20 years, there are so many side benefits to regular aerobic exercise. For examnple my balance is same as when I was 40 years old. Another important benefit is delaying onset of dementia. I am still writing new computer programs with 200-400 lines of code. The day I stop visiting gym, my obituary will appear 3 months later. I am convinced regular mild aerobic exercise is also a cancer preventer.
Good luck. Prayers for you.
Amen. In a consult with a radiation oncologist, I asked her to describe the progression of death by prostate cancer, not out of ghoulishness but genuine curiosity. It wasn’t pleasant.
