Female pilot sues Southwest Airlines after colleague dead-bolted door to the cockpit and stripped NAKED in front of her - and claims the company grounded her after she reported the incident

A Southwest Airlines pilot is suing the company, her union and a former colleague who pleaded guilty last year to dead-bolting the cockpit door during a flight and stripping naked in front of her.

Christine Janning alleges that Southwest retaliated by grounding her after she reported co-pilot Michael Haak to the company and the FBI. Janning's suit also notes that Haak remained employed despite an alleged history of sexual misconduct and that managers disparaged her in memos.

Janning also alleges that the Southwest Airlines Pilots Association conspired with the airline and refused to support her after the August 10, 2020 incident. She is suing Haak for sexual assault.

'On the Flight, Cpt. Haak announced to Ms. Janning that this was to be his final flight, and that there was "something [he] wanted to do before retiring,' the lawsuit reads. 'Cpt. Haak then bolt-locked the cockpit door, in violation of Federal Law, such that only he and Ms. Janning were inside and such that no one else could enter.

The guilt phase is complete, now on to the civil case and I expect that Southwest is going to have to pay out.

How? A midget pilot? Those cockpits are so small the pilot would have to have been a professional contortionist.

That was my first thought when I read that the door was supposedly bolted, too.

Well she photographed him naked and then waited 3 months to report the incident. To me, that fits with the pervy perp pilot’s claim that whatever happened was consensual. Not defending what he did, just noting that she sounds crazy and opportunistic.

This is your captain speaking. There has been an instrument malfunction in the cockpit. Co-pilot Haak will be coming to the passenger area soon to explain what went wrong. There is no need to worry, all instruments needed to fly the plane are in working order, it’s just an extra tool that Co-pilot Haak brought in today that isn’t functioning properly. He’s going to be able to explain more about this to you, I’m sure. Oh just a heads up, Co-pilot Haak has an unusually small penis. I am still laughing after seeing it. Enjoy your flight, we will be touching down soon. You may see some police vehicles pulling up to the airplane on the tarmac. Please allow the policemen to enter before you leave the plane, as they have some important things to do with co-pilot Haak. Oh and Mike, I think we were over the Grand Canyon when I tossed your clothes out, I don’t imagine you’ll find them again. Perhaps one of the male passengers can lend you a spare pair of pants and underwear. Anyone back there wearing extra small? That should fit Mike fine.

What was keeping her from sliding the deadbolt back and walking out the door?

“Deadbolt” may sound sinister to someone unfamiliar with locks - but it is actually the easiest type of lock to open, by far. There’s no key or combination or anything - you just slide it open.

There’s got to be more to this story.

“You want to see Mike Haak?”

”But you’re Mike Haak.”

”Exactly!”

I agree with you. The pilot’s association not backing her makes me think there is more to this. SW Airlines treatment of the issue also make me think she is a chronic complainer too.

There would have been a cockpit voice recorder. Some airlines have video cams but the pilots don’t like them.

There is more to this story than available. Sexual harassment is frowned upon.

The following line makes no sense. “Janning said as retaliation for the FBI report, she was grounded for more than three months, costing her part of her salary. She was then required to take ‘unnecessary’ flight simulator training before she could work again.”

After 3 months of not flying, she is no longer current and requires training before returning to work.

I do wonder why Haak is a 60-year-old first officer after 27 years at Southwest. Southwest is a growing airline, I bet Haak was not promoted due to an issue with him.
