What was it set at in summer?

There’s a certain contingent of people for whom 68F in the summer isn’t cold enough and for whom 72F in the winter isn’t warm enough.

They are most frequently found in situations where someone else is paying the energy bills.

“They are most frequently found in situations where someone else is paying the energy bills.”

My Dad was a Mechanical Engineer and at one point was in charge of a HUGE office building that held nothing but women. Heating and cooling the place was always a nightmare for him, and his bosses were forever riding him to keep those energy costs down.

He sent out a memo to everyone in the building saying something to the effect that everyone, from the CEO to the Janitor, was required to bring and keep a sweater at work.

“When you are cold, put the sweater ON. When you are hot, take the sweater OFF.”

Pretty sure this is where Carter got his idea in the first place, LOL!

air conditioners were not as common in homes, therefore energy consumption during the summer was not a concern.
