Although most San Diegans would say tacos are the region’s most popular food, a recent national study ranked San Diego only eighth on its taco passion list.

The list’s top 10 cities are: Austin, followed by San Jose, San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Houston, San Diego, Phoenix and Riverside.

According to the data-driven study published by Clever Real Estate on Sept. 29, San Diego fell far behind seven other cities based on the percentage of revenue each city’s restaurants chalked up to taco sales, among many other factors.

I like Jack in the Box tacos, so bad they’re good. Go figure.

Around 1974 I had a taco in Kansas city that had ketchup for the red stuff and parmesan for the cheese, it did resemble the picture at the Foster Freeze or whatever it was, but for a Texan it didn’t really pass muster.

I could tolerate the Chili on Spaghetti that I ran into in that city.

“American mexican food in So Cal, Texas, and New Mexico is far better than anywhere in mexico. “

There is a lot of lousy food in Mexico, some good, but a lot of lousy also.

I’m like that also. I think I make the best carne guisada tacos ever. And I’ll add my migas tacos along with that.

Loved Roberto’s, Alberto’s, Humberto’s and so on. I still remember my 1st carne asada burritto from Roberto’s over 40 years ago! lol
I have found decent Mexican food here in Wisconsin (yeah, surprised me!). But, the restaurants are run by Mexicans so....
Great, now I want carne asada!

This what I use. Just follow the instructions on the side. But I go way out of my way to acquire my preferred cut of meat. I've been doing business with a small town meat market that also has their own slaughterhouse. I order the second cut from the bottom of chuck roast that I cubed into stew meat and then cook with a beef bone that is removed before serving on homemade flour tortillas with homemade fermented salsa verde. It just doesn't get any better.

Ketchup and parmesan? You can't call that a taco.

Our fav was Ponak's on Southwest Blvd.
