OAKLAND, Calif. - A man was shot and killed early Tuesday while confronting catalytic-converter thieves outside his home in Oakland's Glenview neighborhood.
Family members identified the victim as Arturo Coronado, 60.
"You already had the catalytic converter. Why did you shoot my dad?" asked Coronado's daughter Amalya Love through tears.
The shooting happened at about 4 a.m. near Everett Avenue and Hampel Street in the normally quiet neighborhood off Park Boulevard.
"I heard some grinding, like metal on metal," said neighbor Michael Cusick.
The thieves had cut off one of two catalytic converters on Coronado's Toyota Sequoia.
Coronado kept saying, "Hey! Hey!" Cusick said. "I heard the pop and then about two seconds later, they sped off."

I consider Newsom a worse ruler than Putin. Taxes are higher in California, to begin with. And the state actively promotes sex mutilation of minors. Crime and homelessness are epidemic. we’re being ordered to buy electric cars starting soon. And our power grid already fails in heat spells, like a third world country. And Newsom is blaming the oil companies for our sky-high pump prices - even though they aren’t charging anywhere near as much in neighboring states. What happened to the companies’ “greed” in Nevada and Arizona, Newsom?
Newsom also shut down restaurants - but not his own wine shop - during Covid. And schools - but not his own kids’ private school. And churches - but not Target and strip clubs

I’ve read that these catalytic converter thieves are now using lookouts who are lurking in the shadows. You go out to confront the guy under your car, and you get ambushed by the lookout.

I have more common sense than you do. And I resent your reference to hiding under the covers.
If you live in a blue state, blue city, do not, do not, do not allow the DemoMarxists to disarm you. I live in the leftist shthole of the east coast New York, not by choice but to care for a sick parent, and I will not go out without my piece. I have 2 that are “illegal” and I’m currently applying for a license even though the 2nd amendment is my license.
For a state that has no problems releasing dangerous criminals who have been arrested countless times, they sure ask a lot of questions of people who want to practice their constitutional right.......

So many people today paint a target on their backs and invite thieves or worse into their lives. I can’t count how many houses I see with garages full of crap piled to the ceiling and their cars parked out on the streets just inviting the meth heads and junkies looking to steal anything they can sell for a fix. In most cases, they never use the crap piled up in the garage. Have a garage sale and clean it out, park your car inside.
This applies everywhere, not just in this case. Families need to make safety and crime prevention a part of their lives. It’s everything from not leaving your things laying about to security systems to personal defense weapons and training.
Seriously? If you hear a possible threat in your yard or on your property you have no tendency to investigate or object?
