Bush41 born 1924: That’s another curiosity I’ve always had. Youngest pilot in WWII? As a pilot myownself it seemed GHW covered a lot of ground by the time he was (supposedly)20. And he wangled a commission with no apparent skills, or actual education, at all? And he stepped into a 3 man fighter/bomber? Still couldn’t hit Chichinitsu but he got a ride on a submarine for missing. The book “Flyboys” covers most of that.

I had that book Flyboys.’ Actually, it was a book on tape. To this day it is the only book that I have ever ‘read’ in its entirety from a tape. I enjoyed it. That book was new when I ‘absorbed’ it. I soon gave it away to a friend going on a long road trip and I never saw it or him again. Not a problem, he was retiring and simply relocated.

It never occurred to me to consider Bush's age and education level. It was just that stuff about the cannibalism and the bravery of our young Pilots back then. What a generation that came into prominence during those years.
