A 20-year-old woman was charged with murder for allegedly running into a man in Cypress over the weekend who she believed was trying to run over a cat, authorities said Wednesday, Sept. 28.
Hannah Star Esser was scheduled to appear in Westminster Superior Court on Oct. 13, where she may enter a plea, said Kimberly Edds, a spokeswoman for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
Esser was arrested Sunday night after Cypress police were called to the 9700 block of Graham Street just before 8:25 p.m. and found Victor Anthony Luis, 43, lying dead in the street, police said.
Both Luis and Esser were traveling northbound on Graham Street, stopped their vehicles and began arguing, Cypress Lt. Scott Ausmus said Tuesday. Prosecutors say Esser suspected he had tried to run over a cat in the street, with Esser recording the confrontation that was laced with profanity by at least one of them.
Esser then got back into her car and continued to argue before driving off, Edds said. However, she allegedly turned around and came back toward Luis and accelerated into the Cypress resident with the right-front of her car, causing Luis to be launched onto the hood and windshield, flipping him several times.(snip)
Luis was expecting his first grandchild this fall and was found on the street in front of his apartment by his brother, according to his family.
The violence toward a stranger “showed a complete disregard for human life,” Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said.
Esser faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life if convicted as charged, Edds said. Wednesday, she remained in jail on $1 million bail.

No impulse control, and no value for human life. Fits the bill for a Biden/Harris voter.
This “woman” cares more about the life of an animal than the life of a human being. Disgraceful and disgusting.
The thousand-yard-stare-of-death says it all.
Torturing and killing small animals is a precursor for violence against human beings. 90% chance the man needed killin’ and lives may have been saved.
This has been posted 4 times that I have seen.
Five more times and that poor cat will have used up all its lives.
There are many on freerepublic who have called for people to be killed because the people killed a cat, no matter how justified the cat killing may have been.
I do my part to rid my farm of the disease-ridden feral beasts but people get me wrong on that account.
I love cats.
Just never could eat a whole one.
You probably didn’t read the part where the article said “she thought he TRIED to run over a cat”. Not that he ran over a cat. And FYI 100% of people that start out by killing people actually end up killing people.
RIP
Working your "logic"; you seem to be advocating for violence against humans "the man needed killin'". Have you tortured and killed small animals?
Torturing and killing small animals is what cats love to do.
Advocating for the saving of cats running wild, is advocating for the torture and killing of small animals.
No allegedly about it.
Death penalty.
Cats are pests that transmit diseases harmful to human beings.

“...90% chance the man needed killin’ “
TOTALLY pinhead post, especially since you don’t know all the facts.
And even if you did, STILL TOTALLY pinhead, yes, you.
Holy crap I hope you are extremely horrible at sarcasm. If not, you are one misguided and callous individual.
