At least 125 people died in Malang when a stampede happened after the police fired tear gas at the end of the match. Survivors are demanding that the authorities be held accountable.
It was supposed to be a fun and memorable outing for Doni and his family.

Doni's brother-in-law and his wife died on that day when they attended a football match between Surabaya’s Persebaya and Arema FC in the latter’s home stadium Kanjuruhan in Malang, East Java. The match ended in chaos and at least 125 people were killed.

Zoomed right over my head.
This makes a Browns/Steelers game crowd look pretty tame...
The idiot police had no reason to fire tear gas. People — mostly kids — were just running around the field, not doing major damage. The gas caused mass panic and a rush to the exits. 30 people died instantly at just one of the exits.
Sad fact of the matter is that when Indonesia has accidents/incidents (ferry sinkings are prime example) they rack up the body count.
Plus the Indonesian authorities are pretty trigger/baton happy. I was in Surabaya during the Suharto riots and narrowly missed a couple of bullets marked ‘occupant’ as the authorities just blasted away into crowds without specific aiming.
Theres got to be some kind of common thread to this kind of ridiculous crap and blacks in the USA shooting at movie screens.
