And who, exactly, goes out of their way to see these edgy, artsy, message-laden flicks? Aren't they mostly limited to "gay" film festivals, attended by a few hundred fringe patrons?
Don't laugh. After a dust up over a "targeted" bar check by police at a queer bar in 2008 in my city, the police chief was forced to do penance by attending an "LGBTQ" film showing during "pride" week. He had to go to the front of the theater before the showing, to reveal his presence at the venue, and make a short "apology" speech. He endured a lot of booing and nastiness from the crowd of sodomites, but that was his "sentence."
In an incident of poetic justice, the queer bar burned down a couple of years later and was never rebuilt or relocated.
That's what Social Credit scores are for. The State Diversity, Inclusion, Equity Board will be getting feeds from your credit card company that you've been at a John Wayne film festival and that you're no longer eligible for travel, groceries at the People's Market, or meals at the People's Cafeteria. You can improve that score by attending state-approved cinema and writing glowing reviews onto social media, which they're also monitoring. If you want your daily bug burger you better toe the line, Citizen.

Sounds like a cover story for intentionally forcing the film to lose money so he can avoid paying investors, just like the plot of the Broadway play “The Producers”.
