He expected straight people to watch a movie which shows contempt for straight people?

and it an average of 101 people per screen saw it, all weekend—let’s say they mean Fri-Sun and 4 showings per day. That’s about 8 or 9 people per showing.

Presumably more saw it in Cambridge/Boston, San Fran, Key West etc...

I know gay men. They don’t bother me much. Honestly, I don’t give them much thought.

But, I don’t like rom-coms in general. So, a gay rom-com? They lost me at the start.

While I am sure I am not in their demographic—I am an old guy—I DO go to the movies when I can find something worth watching. My wife and I used to go every other week or so. Our taste is broad. This movie looked like a dog from the start.

Sorry, bro.

I had to look up rom-com. Romantic comedy. His problem is: The Basic Structure of a Romantic Comedy Screenplay Rom-com screenplays are usually formulaic: Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy wins girl back. Behind all of this is five million years of biology. It’s about having children, legitimizing an heir all of which is about marriage. It’s a symbol of shared beliefs and values and finality. None of those things follow from a gay relationship...and everyone knows that. None of the foundations of romance and marriage can be present in reality. Going through the motions is not the same and doesn’t imply the level of emotional investment. (It might imply it to gay people, but straights are not going to believe it and thus the script writer is building on a presumed foundation that simply isn’t there.)

He’s acting in a movie that appeals to about 2% of the population. Why would the other 98% want to see that?

Right, and not only unappealing but outright disgusting to the majority of the population.

I might be convinced to go see a movie about a topic I'm not interested in. Not this.

Interesting—I went to see Greg Gutfeld this weekend at Foxwoods in CT. The place was sold out. The line to get in was about 30 minutes.

It was all older white folk (99%.). These people have disposable income. Many of them went to dinner at the resort. My wife and I figured we dropped about $400 in three hours.

If you produce something people “want” to see, they will come and pay a premium price to see it.

The biggest b*tch I ever worked with was a male queer. And that was back in the 80’s.

I don’t particularly care for any ‘romcom’, as the plots are ALL the same:

1. Boy meets girl.
2. Boy loses girl.
3. Boy gets girl back.
4. Happy ever after....The End.

I would imagine the gay version:

1. Boy meets boy.
2. Happy ever after....The End....................

People who live in their own little bubbles refuse to acknowledge that most of the world doesn’t agree with them.

I wish this were true. Unfortunately these people have a bigger sin than avarice, and that is their destructive ideology. They are true believers and in their framework, no cost is too high to bear for the promotion of their ideology.

Somehow a film about faggot bath houses and the “fun” they get up at 2AM to is something for which I wouldn’t waste a penny of my net worth or a second of my time.

You left out the AIDS, monkeypox, hepatitis, anal warts, and antibiotic-resistant syphilis.

You know ...

Boy meets boy.

Boy and boy go to the bath-house every other evening ...

Even more ridiculous since he basically told all of his prospective ticket buyers to get eff’d.

Actions still have consequences.

The reality is certain neighborhoods probably had a lot more people in it, but a lot of areas almost no one was in it.
