Listening to a few Rick Beato features like the link above - Episode 91 with Joni Mitchell.

Whether it's the top 20 guitar solos or it's this piece discussing Joni Mitchell it becomes obvious that from folk to metal to rock to county we have some brilliant musicians. They understand theory, phrasing, poetry, art.

Every aspiring musician that grabs a guitar and starts playing has to realize the complexity of music and the genius of some of these musicians from Larry Carlton to John Bonham.

That’s more of a hybrid rock/rap.

With the number of rap singers being murdered you think they would get the idea that even blacks HATE rap music.
Her is a list that has not been updated since 2020.

https://raptology.com/list-of-murdered-hip-hop-musicians/

Can anyone think of another music style that has this many “Shot and killed” musicians?

Doo Wop didn’t glorify gangs, drugs, prostitution, murder and foul language.

Dirty blues certainly did. I’m sure there we’re luddites in the 1950’s who hated Doo Wop, too. I’m a big fan of the Drifters, Ben E. King, etc. Modern rap is part of the pop culture. The rot is much deeper.

As a musician I have a very broad objective like for ALL music but hip hop and rap. Like you say... There is just no musicianship or talent in it at all. Not even a melody with the words. It is just garbage root brain stem music.

Not long ago at a home football game they played music every so often and the lyrics of one song was “like a strippers booty bouncing up and down.” 😶 These are children and their families. Seems nobody knows what’s appropriate anymore.

Carlton on Kid Charlemagne....words fail.

TThe four Carleton lead guitar solos in that song are what so many great teachers and mentors, plus decades of brutally efficient practice, not to mention absolute personal brilliance and talent, will produce, when Steely Dan picks up the Batphone and calls you from the studio...

“Hi Larry? You free?”

Rick Beato did not say that exactly I’ll be careful posting that he said rappers crap on a conservative website because he can get slammed by bots for that

Your title has gotten a lot of attention, but it's your title, not Rick's. And you also listed yourself as the author. And you're not Rick.

Bad pop music, sung in a fake Southern accent.

Beato is a very interesting guy. He is very knowledgeable with an incredible ear. The only problem I have with his analyses are his championing of 90’s grunge. 90’s grunge is just god awful. His takes on it are rather surprising.

I think a lot of stuff gets labelled grunge that shouldn't be. Alice in Chains is one example.

No kidding. I also agree with Beato in E-91 when discussing Joni, the music is so sweet you almost have ears in your eyes.
