I have tried everything possible but we have come to the end of the road for trying to save his leg. It has to come off. So, he will be having his right leg amputated by Skylos Sports medicine in Frederick MD Monday. Begged, borrowed and sold, out of options. Neck-deep in debt despite insurance, consultations and copays have beggared us. His lungs are clear [yay!] he eats like a starving horse and is otherwise happy as drunken clam and probably has a lot of time left. But the leg is a mess and he keeps trying to use it and falls sometimes. It has to go so he won't try to use it anymore. It probably hurts now as he's finally licking at it. Otherwise, robust and active so I have hope. I've never had to cut off a chunk of my dog to help him and it's the most horrible heartbreaking things that's ever happened in my life, and that's saying something. He has a chance at a decent life, hopefully for many years and I have given up and turned it all over to the God who can work miracles. Prayers would be SO appreciated. If you can spare a few bucks, it will help pay on the crazy debts I have accrued. Some here know how much means to me and that he's the only thing in my life that brings any happiness. I started this prayer thread "early" to get as many as possible before we step into this terrifying thing Monday. I've done everything possible to keep him on 4 legs but alive and a tripod is better than dead.
Please pray for a safe and successful surgery, minimal pain and a great recovery and adaption to 3 legs.
Might wanna toss in a few prayers for me, too, as I am totally falling apart over this nightmare.
Thank you all and God bless.

Saying prayers to St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals.
I hope all goes well for your beloved dog.

I watch a lot of true veterinary shows. My favorite is
The Yorkshire Vet. One thing I've learned from the doctors on that show is that dogs adapt very well to missing a leg. They don't go through the psychological trauma that humans do. They bounce back
really fast.
As long you are there for him, and he knows you love him, he will be fine! I will cover your little guy with my prayers! You mean way more to him than a leg!

I will pray for both you and your dog.
I hope he allows himself to heal a bit before doing too much moving.
Forgive me, but I’m going to broach the topic of how temporary everything is in life. Nothing and no one last forever in the physical realm. What the heck am I saying? I’m saying it may be something good for you to just let yourself imagine having an enjoyable pet after this one.
Be careful becoming too deeply invested in that one sweet dog in your life right now.
Always allow yourself the belief that when that time comes, you can find a new pet to cherish and enjoy.
It will never be exactly the same, but it will be a great thing, nevertheless.

Prayers up for your furry buddy and for you.

Thank you all.
We are inseparable.
Of all crazy things I think I’m taking “empath” to the extreme now.
My right hip is *killing* me and I can barely walk.
It’s like I am “feeling” what is to come, Monday.
Thank God for heating pads.
I have mine set to “broil” right now.

My beloved village idiot. Of all insane things, yesterday he decided I didn't "feed him enough" so he ate a big chunk of leather. Oh, the joys of picking through dog poop and reassembling the bits.

Unfortunate and I certainly wish the best.
We all know how pets can easily become part of the family in every sense of the word.

We often forget and expect our late GSD to knock us over as we enter the house. Sucks.

He has beautiful doberman like colors and even better than that, he’s a natural clown!
He looks to be short haired. Those type don’t require a ton of brushing every day, which is nice.
