Obesity should be reclassified as a brain disorder like ADHD: doctors
NY Post ^ | September 29, 2022 | Adriana Diaz

Currently, it is treated as a behavioral disease, but doctors are now suggesting that it be considered a brain-development disorder such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (also known as ADHD), autism and Asperger’s syndrome.

The study, which was published on Science.org, was conducted by doctors from Baylor College of Medicine in Texas.

Researchers looked at one area of the brain, the arcuate nucleus, which has several different types of neurons, including ones that control metabolism, according to ScienceDirect.

During early childhood, this part of the brain undergoes changes. The brain is particularly sensitive to programming during this time, and it will affect how body weight can be regulated later in life.

“How about pederasty or gender dysphoria? Or sexual addiction?”

Sometimes Ritalin crosses my mind... 20 years ago Ritalin was over prescribed and now 20 years later... look.

And yet thinking you’re the opposite sex is celebrated. And they’ll cut you up to macabrelly resemble the opposite sex.

My wild guess is maternal sexual hormone Imbalance during gestation, either through genetic disposition of mom , or residual birth control chemicals not yet completely excreted from mom, or natural and artificial chemicals which have male or female sex hormone activity. Some of these are natural effects but the recent (within 50 years) uptick might indicate artificial chemicals. The latest explosion in this activity is prob a fad followed by attention needy kids.

A.D.D. is on the autism spectrum. Male porn addicts are said to most likely have A.D.D. Obesity, especially those with morbid obesity tend to have either severe depression or anxiety. Both A.D.D. and obesity are linked with addiction, addictive behavior and depression and some theories suggest both are caused from early childhood trauma.

My nephew has ADD. Trust me, it’s a thing. His brain can’t hold onto any one thought process for an extended period, and he is constantly distracted, even when he’s really trying to sit and concentrate. Tell him something, he forgets five minutes later. This coupled with a stutter, too.

Obesity is 100% behavioral. I have a family member as an example - she knows what she eats is junk, but doesn’t care because she doesn’t have the time to cook or shop, nor the money to spend on healthier, more nutritious foods. She also very much enjoys food, and has a tendency to buy stuff that she really likes, and it’s just about always junk thanks to the chemical dependency on salt and sugar. She’s been heard saying that food is the last pleasure she has in life because her job dominates it, and she never gets to see friends. She works 12-16 hour days for a company contracted by the state of Illinois, but only gets paid for 8 because she has to bring her work home. Every. Day. They dump an insane amount on these particular workers and pay them jack sh¡t.

There was a time in my life when I suddenly started gaining weight. I joined Weight Watchers and followed the program and still gained weight. They just looked at me like I was cheating. My weight went to over 200 pounds and I am 5’6” female. I went to three different doctors. All ran blood work and said I was fine....all I needed to do was diet and exercise. I had been doing that for over a year. I was in my 40’s and one doctor said that just happens to some women and there’s nothing I could to about it.

A book was referred to me...Screaming To Be Heard. I read it and some of it was just like me. It told me what kind of doctor to go to.

Finally I went to an endocrinologist. He ran blood work and determined that my thyroid was low. So I learned how to eat for a low thyroid....high protein diet. And I take a low dose of thyroid and 2 drops of Lugol’s Strong Iodine. I lost 50 pounds and finally went from size 18 to size 12.

Some fat people you are looking at may have low thyroid and the just don’t know it. And a GP is probably not going to diagnose it.

One thing to check out if other obvious reasons, overeating, high calorie sodas etc, have been ruled out, is birth control pills. I have no prejudice about them but have observed that those whom I know who have, or are, using them, have a hard time with keeping their weight at a desired level. Everybody has to figure out for themselves what they should do about their weight as there are so many factors that affect one person and not another. Healthy eating is beneficial in any case and can be tailored to calorie needs. Times when I was over my preferred weight, were due to indulgence rather than sensible eating. I had to get myself in control and make a choice and I did and am happy for it. Not always arguing with myself over a settled decision.

I absolutely know that cases like yours exist.

The obesity epidemic that we’re experiencing over the last 30+ years is not related however.

Glad you eventually found competent help though!!!

About the time they started pushing low-fat diets....I'm just sayin'.

the addicted brain is most certainly malfunctioning. But the frustration stems from the notion that “you’re not responsible for your obesity” dogma.

And the ruthless opportunists promoting obesity aren’t helping.

Interesting. I’d say there are numerous causes of obesity. A long time ago I read a book (have forgotten the title) that blamed watching TV for obesity. It claimed one gained more weight by watching TV than by just sitting and doing nothing.

Manufactured “food” is about as safe and reliable as the convenience of Big government and Big Pharma.

You have to eat it to find out what’s in it. Most never catch on.

Many years ago there was a thread on this very subject. The poster pointed out that years ago people were much thinner and he posted a link to a youtube video of kids dancing on Soul Train. I don’t remember exactly the video but here is one. You can see those dancers are thin! Go to any high school and you’ll have a hard time seeing any students who are this thin. Check out this video

BTW there is a fair amount of evidence that our school lunch programs have increased obesity rates dramatically.

Weren’t people with ADHD and obesity problems born that way and should therefore be tolerated...like homosexuals who were born that way?
