There was a time in my life when I suddenly started gaining weight. I joined Weight Watchers and followed the program and still gained weight. They just looked at me like I was cheating. My weight went to over 200 pounds and I am 5’6” female. I went to three different doctors. All ran blood work and said I was fine....all I needed to do was diet and exercise. I had been doing that for over a year. I was in my 40’s and one doctor said that just happens to some women and there’s nothing I could to about it.
A book was referred to me...Screaming To Be Heard. I read it and some of it was just like me. It told me what kind of doctor to go to.
Finally I went to an endocrinologist. He ran blood work and determined that my thyroid was low. So I learned how to eat for a low thyroid....high protein diet. And I take a low dose of thyroid and 2 drops of Lugol’s Strong Iodine. I lost 50 pounds and finally went from size 18 to size 12.
Some fat people you are looking at may have low thyroid and the just don’t know it. And a GP is probably not going to diagnose it.
I absolutely know that cases like yours exist.
The obesity epidemic that we’re experiencing over the last 30+ years is not related however.
Glad you eventually found competent help though!!!
Interesting. I’d say there are numerous causes of obesity. A long time ago I read a book (have forgotten the title) that blamed watching TV for obesity. It claimed one gained more weight by watching TV than by just sitting and doing nothing.
