The internet is still using IPv4 and IPv6 side-by-side. We are a long way from transitioning/retiring IPv4 and making IPv6 ubiquitous. Pushing for an entirely new "New IP" ignores the enormous investment the world has in standard IP protocol stacks.

Well, it wouldn’t be the first unelected people push society to adopt an immature technology (Think EVs).

Unfortunately, IPv6 is pretty much incompatible with IPv4, and needed new software and often new hardware.

Imagine if, back in the 1960s, Ma Bell had made Direct Distance Dialing and Area Codes incompatible with then existing telephones.
