Small moose to only yield 100 lbs of meat.

Or bad butcher...

A 1,600-lb moose will dress out at about 950 lbs, yielding approximately 500 lbs of meat.

Possibly breached the digestive system and made some of it contaminated.

If it didn’t bleed out, blood may have pooled in the lower parts of the moose carcass.

My father-in-law hit a moose with his Bronco. Latter survived with a broken windshield. Moose dressed out at something just above 900 lbs. Good eatin’. Enough to share with family, friends and neighbors.
