FDOT closes Skyway Bridge when winds hit 45 MPH. They closed it at 11 pm last night. Most stores are closed here.

There is an annual race on it. It is a fundraiser for the military.

The original sunshine skyway bridge collapsed in 1980 killing 34 or 35 people if i recall correctly. a ship hit one of the bridge supports and bridge fell into the bay.
We had been across it going to and returning from Sanibel Island a few months earlier, just to say we’d done it. The old bridge was scary.

Yeah, and a Trailways bus was one of the casualties.
You want scary? I rode over that very bridge on a Trailways bus FIVE days before that collapse.
