No one in physics dares say so, but the race to invent new particles is pointless
The Guardian ^ | 26 September 2022 | Sabine Hossenfelder

Posted on 09/28/2022 2:06:48 AM PDT by zeestephen

In private, many physicists admit they do not believe the particles they are paid to search for exist – they do it because their colleagues are doing it..."As a former particle physicist, it saddens me to see that the field has become a factory for useless academic papers."

The whole field of academic science research is dominated by the need to get grant money, which means submitting lots of grant proposals, hoping some will get approved.

The whole edifice of much of science and useless educational endeavour may collapse due to underfunding. Colleges may shrink to 1/2 of their current size. Lots of gender and woke “perfessors” will become gardeners.

My knowledge of science issues is limited, but I have wondered about the practical and applied use of these projects. Such as the one Elon Musk has been working on, requiring several million dollars to keep going.

Just because someone believes these particles may not exist does not make it so. Real science is always searching for the flaws in current theories. Nothing is ever settled science.

Not just science but any research coming out of academia. Especially sociology research. In fact most social perversions (transgenderism, nonbinarism, genderfluidism….) have their roots in academic ‘research’

Sabine Hossenfelder (born 18 September 1976) is a German theoretical physicist, author, and musician who researches quantum gravity. She is a Research Fellow at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies where she leads the Superfluid Dark Matter group.

Hardly a “tool” on the Guardian’s payroll.

It’s the same in all fields including the climate crap and medice. It’s about money not science.

“but I have wondered about the practical and applied use of these projects.”

Common sense. Same here. I am now thinking that even they know their stuff will never work or care. The object is not to invent a better mousetrap, but to invent a good con job to get funding.

Absolutely nailed it! The only real work many in the ‘sciences’ actually do is filling out the many, many gubmint forms that request grant money. There are even outside services that are available to do the grunt work of grant requests.

It is a racket.

I’ve said as much here for years, only to be roundly cast aside as a crack-pot.

This could have been foretold by the plagiarist One-stone’s Nobel Prize given the year after the committee said there were no entries deserving of the prize. “Einstein’s prizeworthy work” had actually been done by several before him. The prize was then given was on the exact same nomination support for Albert Einstein from the year before.

It was a political vote. Other than sifting for the best and brightest from college physics classes to be sequestered for special secret projects, graduates thereafter have been fed BS quantum nonsense.

Particles are only the beans for bean-counting the universe. They don’t begin to explain the foundations of the universe at all.

She also does physics-based music videos. They are so bad that they are good.
