Why isn’t there any industrial scale aerogel insulation production going on? It is an insanely efficient insulator.

The biggest problem from it is that it works too well, so insulating a room, for example, has to be done with care or people will cook from their own body heat. But if you did insulate a single rooms in homes, the number of cold related deaths would plummet.

I think it’s because we don’t have supercritical dryers that are large enough in the quantity needed. I’ve made them for work, but it’s for microsurgery, not building insulation.
