The energy company Eon demands a significantly higher gas bill from the Hanoverian baker Eckehard Vatter . He demands around 330,000 euros from the entrepreneur for the gas consumption of the past four months. In addition, he should pay the amount within 14 days. "Are they crazy?" He reacted indignantly, according to the Bild newspaper. "A year ago it was 5,856 euros per month in gas costs for our large furnaces and heating."
The boss of the family business, which has existed since 1955, reported on a previously concluded contract with a price guarantee until the end of 2023. "But it was suddenly terminated." We have that into next year, when I will need to pony up for what everyone else is paying.
I knew energy would skyrocket the longer Biden was in office, so I got what I could.
Just declare her a witch.
To repost and add slightly to a comment I made on another thread:
Most FReepers have a lousy understanding of modern Europe. For the most part, the Euro pols’ mistakes were exactly what most of their constituents wanted prior to those constituents’ discovery of the ramifications of their desires.
Rush to go green? Hell, yeah!
Buy oil and gas as still needed from Pooty? Sure, it’s always been reliable and easy to get. Work together!
Cut defense spending to almost nothing? Absolutely. War in Europe is unthinkable - we’ve evolved beyond it. Hey, did you see that riot at the football (soccer) game?
Trump warns Europe about these things? This man is mad!!!
Hey, Pooty crunched Georgia a few years back? Oh, they were probably just troublemakers anyway. Like Orban. And, besides, Bushie took care of it.
What just happened in Afghanistan? Ho-hum, doesn’t concern me. Maybe we should accept some more refugees.
All these things of course led Putin to believe he could invade Ukraine with impunity.
Europe’s people may give lip service to these attitudes being their own errors, but it is easier to see Putin and his pals as the source of their discomforts. The Euro pols of course reinforce this, by making the same case. After all, there’s no rebutting the core argument: If Pooty behaves himself (doesn’t invade), Europe probably has an unremarkable winter.
Individuals will vary, of course, but it is quite likely the average Euro’s attitude toward Russia will be hardened in proportion to their and their friends’ discomforts. Their governments will use this to stay in power.
